Q: What's with people liking subtitled anime to dubbed? It's easier to watch in English, and there's no point in having to watch the bottom of the screen!
A: Alright, this is nearly a flame, but I'm going to answer in the defense of subing fans like myself. Sometimes the Engilsh voices of the characters are outright annoying. Sometimes in dubbed *uncut*
versions, scenes are cut AS WELL AS language. Take the Sailor Moon R movie. Go watch either version and you'll see a huge difference. Music is also changed sometimes. The biggest thing though is that fans
want to see a show in all its glory, and that's to see it as it originally aired... or as close to it as they can come. It's very uncommon for subtitles to move to quickly and to be too long, contrary to what
dubbing fans believe. Expand yourself and watch a couple episodes of your favorite dubbed anime subtitled, and see what you think.
Q: Where can I find the Japanese Sailor Moon R game?
A: Well, I'm not really sure. This game (Game Boy, Nintendo) is one of the many anime video games that
was never released in America. You can check out Ebay; it has almost
everything I've ever looked for. Happy hunting!
Q: I'm a huge Sailor Moon fan, but I'm not really famillier with the Japenese version. Could you give me maybe some of the scouts' names from it?
A: Sure! I think the only way to really get into the anime is to know more about the origanal show. Here are some translated (and dubbed) names.
Dubbed-Origanal-Meaning
Serena-Usagi Tsukino-Rabbit of the Moon
Amy-Ami Mizuno-Beauty of the Water
Raye-Rei Hino-Spirit of Fire
Lita- Makoto Kino-Honesty of Wood
Mina-Minako Aino-Beautiful Child of Love
Note that for the name meanings to make sense, the names must be written Japanese style-- that's last name first, first name last.
